How much space will my word take up? +

Roughly a metre per character. Each letter frame is 0.9m wide and 1.2m high, and you want 100mm to 150mm between them or the word reads as a solid block in photos. A four-letter name comes to about 4.2m of wall, which is wider than most people expect and wider than a standard cake table. Measure the wall before you choose the word, not after.

Should I buy separate letters or the words stand? +

Separate letters if you want to rearrange them, the Freestanding 3D Words and Phrases Display Stand if the message is fixed and you want it to read cleanly as one piece. Individual frames from the Alphabet Stand give you flexibility and cost you setup time and floor width. If you want arch, oblique or square backdrop panels and matching plinths to sit around the letters, Arch Party Backdrop Sets with Plinth is where those live; this page is characters only.

Can I stand them outside on grass? +

Yes, with base weights and flat ground under each foot. A 1.2m letter is a small sail on a narrow base, and wind loading is what bends these frames while the fabric shrugs it off. Put a paver or a board under each foot on lawn so nothing sinks, add the optional base weights, and space them slightly wider outdoors so one going over does not take the next one with it.

Can I use the same letters for a different name? +

Yes, and that is the argument for buying letters rather than a fixed phrase. The frame and the skin are matched per character, so an E is an E at every party, and a hire operator only buys the letters that keep coming back. Vowels and S go out most. Skins are printed double-sided in fabric, so a colour change means new skins on the same frames rather than a new set.
