Will the covers fit the barriers I hire? +

Usually, but measure before ordering, because Australian hire fleets are not standardised. The common event barricade runs about 2.2m to 2.5m long and roughly 1.1m high, and covers are made to a stated panel size rather than a universal fit. Get the exact length and height of the panel and the outside diameter of the top rail from your hire company, in millimetres, and send those with the order. A cover cut 50mm short will not sit square.

What is the difference between a barricade jacket and a barricade cover? +

A jacket is a sleeved panel that slips over the barrier frame and ties at the back, so one person can fit or strip it in about thirty seconds per barrier. A cover is closer to a full wrap and gives a cleaner face with less flap along the bottom edge. Jackets suit hire fleets that turn over weekly and get handled roughly. Covers suit a sponsor-facing frontage that is going to be photographed.

What does wind do to a printed cover? +

It treats it as a sail, and that is the thing operators underestimate. An uncovered barrier is mostly open mesh and wind passes straight through it. Fit a solid printed panel and every barrier becomes roughly 2 square metres of sheet catching the breeze, so a run will walk sideways or lay over in a gust. Weight the feet, keep the run linked rather than free-standing, and strip the covers off anything left overnight.

How many barriers do I need for a queue line? +

Take the run in metres, divide by the panel length, then add one, because linked barriers lose a little length at each hook. A 20 metre lane needs nine or ten of a 2.2m panel per side. Barriers link foot-to-hook in a continuous line and eat about 400mm of ground width including the feet, so a double-sided lane takes close to a metre more floor than the walking space itself.

Can these be used as vehicle or crash barriers? +

No. Crowd control barriers manage queues and separate pedestrians from a work area or a stage front. They are not rated to stop a vehicle and they are not a fall-arrest edge. If your traffic management plan calls for vehicle protection, that is water-filled or concrete barrier hire and a different conversation with the council. Use these for wayfinding, ticket lines, bar queues and keeping a crowd off a cable run.

How is this different from putting a flag on the footpath? +

A barrier cover works at walking pace and close range, a flag works at distance. How do I clean and store covers between events? +

Sponge them while they are still on the barrier, then dry them flat before they go in the crate. Mud and spilt beer dry into the weave and set, so hose the worst off on site while it is wet. Fold along the same lines each time and the print survives it, but leave a cover damp in a sealed box over summer and you will open a mildewed panel. Roll rather than fold if the crate is deep enough.
