What size marquee suits a standard market stall? +

A 3m x 3m. That is the bay size most Australian markets allocate per stallholder, and it gives you room for two trestles and a person behind them. Step up to 4.5m or 6m wide only if you have booked a double bay, because a 3m x 6m frame is not a one-person job and will not fit through a single-bay gap. Confirm your allocated frontage with the market organiser before ordering.

How much weight do I need on each leg? +

Whatever your council or market organiser specifies, and they do specify it. Most permit conditions and market rules set a minimum weight per leg and staff will check before you trade, so read the conditions rather than guessing. Sand bags, weight plates and rope-and-spike kits all count, and you can mix them. Weights are not an accessory you add later if the day turns windy, because by then it is too late to fit them safely.

Can I peg the marquee down on bitumen or paving? +

No. Pegs need soil, and most markets, car parks and school quadrangles are bitumen, concrete or pavers, so pegging is off the table before you start. Weights on every leg are the only option there, and four legs means four weights, not two on the windward side. On grass you can peg, but a peg pulls out of soft wet ground under load, so keep weights in the trailer regardless of the surface you were promised.

How long will the printed roof last in full Australian sun? +

Expect a few seasons of hard outdoor use before colour shift is visible, and less if the marquee lives up every weekend through a Queensland summer. UV breaks down both the ink and the polyester itself, so the fabric goes chalky and loses tear strength before it looks obviously faded. Dry it fully before packing, store it out of the sun, and treat the roof as a consumable while the frame keeps going.

When should I take the marquee down in wind? +

Before you think you need to. Wind is what destroys marquees, not rain or sun, and it does it in seconds by lifting the roof and folding a leg. If gusts are strong enough that the roof is drumming and the frame is lifting between weights, drop the walls first, because walls turn the marquee into a sail. If it keeps building, pack the roof away and leave the frame standing bare.

How is this different from a market umbrella? +

A marquee gives you a square of shade with vertical walls you can print and close up; an umbrella from our Custom Printed Outdoor Umbrellas range gives you a round of shade over a table and nothing else. Does rain get through, and what is a rain gutter for? +

The roof sheds rain, but water pools in any panel that is not tensioned properly and then dumps in one go when someone brushes the leg. Set the frame to full height so the roof pitches, and clear standing water from underneath with a broom handle. How many people set one up, and how do I order? +

Two people and about fifteen minutes for a 3m x 3m: one at each end walking the frame open, then the roof on before the legs go to full height.
